This weekend has been jammed full. Lot’s of people hanging out at our house, going out, and eating. I’ll start with Saturday. Isaac and I went for a quick walking tour around our neighborhood- there is a library, butchery, and a florist literally one block away. I’m not really too excited about the butchery but Isaac surely is. So he got some meat and I bought a vase and the florist gave me some flowers free!
I had a Butternut Squash Lean Cuisine, which I bought spefically after reading lindzakins921’s review. I totally agree with her as the dish looks like the picture on the box and it’s delicious. One of the best frozen meals I have had, although I still think Amy’s Indian frozen meals are to die for. I want to try some of the other SPA Lean Cuisine meals now.
Saturday evening we went to see Dark Knight. It was good, I’m glad I saw it in theaters, it was particularly long though. That evening we met up with some friends and I had one beer. Sunday morning I woke and made pumpkin oats with pumpkin puree, it was kind of disappointing because obviously they weren’t as sweet as when I used pumpkin pie filling and I secretly wished they were.
For lunch: spinach salad with feta, peach FAGE

Later I had some frozen yogurt with chocolate chips and pecans and carmel for a snack:
Isaac’s Dad came over to our house to grill and watch the football game. I opted to go to Isaac’s parents house to eat dinner and hang out with his mom and sis. We had the tofu fennel dish that I have featured on here before. It was the best I’ve ever had it this time, Ellen added portobello mushrooms and lots of extra basil. It was so good.
After dinner we watched The Notebook. I have seen it before but it was still a tear jerker- I really love that movie. I came home around 11pm and went out with Isaac and some friends… I only had 1 vodka lime and soda water. It turned into a late night with lots of people over our apartment and I ended staying awake until 4 AM, which is pretty crazy because I am like Cinderella and turn into a pumpkin after 12 AM, so I am usually in bed before that. Which explains why I slept until 12 PM today. I hate sleeping the day away, such a waste of the day, but I was so tired after saying up that late. I ate oats for my breakfast at 1 in the afternoon- even when I wake up at lunch time I eat breakfast because it’s my favorite meal and I don’t want to miss it. I had some random snacks today like a couple handfuls of rice chex and a couple Kettle Chips of Isaac’s. We ran errands and didn’t get home until 9PM. I was starving for dinner so I whipped up whole wheat spaghetti noodles, marinara, “chicken” strips, steamed broccolini, and two pieces of multigrain bread. I had never had broccolini before and I really enjoyed. It’s a hybrid of the cabbage family- basically a cross between broccoli and chinese broccoli. A family friend of Isaac’s gave it to us but I will definitely be buying it again.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and a big thank you to all the ladies that left nice comments about my new do. The bangs are going well.. when I pull my hair back in a pony tail they just give my hair a little something extra. I like them and they haven’t caused much maintenance. I even went to the gym and didn’t have any trouble.

Pretty vase and flowers! Maybe you could add pumpkin pie spice to your oatmeal. I do and although it doesn’t make it as sweet as you would like it makes it more pumpkin pie like. Or add honey?

Thanks for stopping by my blog, fellow richmonder! Nice to “meet” you. I look forward to reading more of your blog!
The Notebook is also a tear jerker for me. It is a dependable movie when one needs a good cry!

That tofu fennel dish looks great! I’ll have to try it. I’m a fennel freak! I’m glad you’re loving the bangs!

I’m glad you’re still diggin’ the bangs!
That tofu fennel dish looks delicious. And honestly, I think I could watch the Notebook 100 times and still cry. It’s just that amazing.
Ooh, I’ve never tried broccolini, but it looks tasty.
Have a great week!

I thought Dark Knight was a bit too long as well. We watched it on IMAX a couple of weeks after it first came out and still had to wait in line for 30 minutes. It was entertaining but definitely over-rated! My mom just saw the Notebook on TV last night too and won’t stop talking about it! I think I’ll have to Netflix that one for sure.

Even when I wake up late, I HAVE to have breakfast. I’d rather eat a late breakfast and then jump right to dinner than have lunch first thing! It just doesn’t feel right skipping the best meal!

How great you were able to have tofu at someone else’s house- nobody I know will touch tofu!
I’m making a spaghetti/broccoli combo tonight! Does the broccolini taste very different?
Posted by eatingbirdfood on August 22, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Ashley- I don’t think it tastes that different, it has a bit more of a “greens” taste to it. I liked it a lot and definitely recommend trying it.
